A tale of two men…

One day, two men walk into a grocery store and steal a loaf of bread.

These two men are identical in all ways except one — one man has no conception of right or wrong whereas the other does.

Is one of the men more moral than the other? The action is the same. The outcome is the same. The impact upon the grocer is the same. The only difference is within the mind of the men themselves.

The man who has no conception of morality will continue along his life, unaware of the moral quandary that comes with having to wrestle with knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing ‘wrong’. The man who ponders morality however, has created turmoil within himself.

The question I pose is this: In this scenario, is there benefit in knowing the difference between right and wrong?
